ABOUT US

Positive Rhythm's Values and Approach

Welcome to Positive Rhythm — where every person’s journey matters.

Positive Rhythm is a registered NDIS Specialist Behaviour Support service, delivering evidence-based, ethical, and compassionate Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to individuals aged 7 years and over. We work alongside people with disability, their families, carers, and broader support networks to create safer, more meaningful lives—grounded in dignity, choice, and respect.

As a registered Specialist Behaviour Support provider, we support individuals who are subject to, or at risk of, restrictive practices, and we work within the regulatory framework of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. Our role is to reduce and eliminate restrictive practices over time by addressing the underlying causes of behaviours of concern and building skills, supports, and environments that promote safety, autonomy, and quality of life.

In line with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, Specialist Behaviour Support providers are responsible for conducting functional behaviour assessments, developing and implementing Behaviour Support Plans, and ensuring that any restrictive practices are authorised, monitored, reported, and reviewed, with a strong focus on least-restrictive alternatives and human rights.

Restrictive practices, as defined by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, include:

  • Seclusion – confining a person alone in a room or area from which they cannot freely exit

  • Chemical restraint – the use of medication to influence behaviour rather than to treat a diagnosed medical condition

  • Mechanical restraint – the use of devices to restrict movement (e.g. straps, splints, or belts)

  • Physical restraint – the use of physical force to restrict a person’s movement

  • Environmental restraint – restricting a person’s free access to their environment (e.g. locked cupboards, doors, or appliances)

Positive Rhythm works collaboratively with participants and their support teams to ensure that any restrictive practices are used only as a last resort, are lawfully authorised, and are actively reduced and eliminated wherever possible through proactive, skill-building, and person-centred strategies.

We take the time to understand each individual’s unique profile, strengths, communication style, sensory needs, and emotional regulation capacity. Our supports are practical, strengths-based, and tailored—designed to build confidence, enhance communication, increase independence, and support meaningful participation in everyday life.
